Former Spanish ‘keeper Santiago Canizares became a worldwide trending topic last night after posting a picture of his unsuspecting missus in the nip on his Twitter page. He wasn’t a bad ‘keeper in his day, but the former Valencia and Spanish netminder, who now works as an analyst for Spanish television, may well be remembered as much for two infamous off-field incidents as opposed to anything he did on the pitch. Last night, thinking he was having a bit of innocent fun, Canizares took a picture of his wife as she emerged from the shower completely in the nip. No harm if such photographic evidence is kept between husband and wife, of course, but when you share it with over 170,000 followers on Twitter, that’s where the trouble starts. Canizares quickly deleted the picture (see below – NSFW obviously), butas a certain teenager in Cavan found out last week, these things have a way of spreading all over the internet and soon, the picture of Canizares’ wife was all over Twitter and the man himself was left with a lot of explaining to do.
Pic via Twitter/Niall Finneran Having deleted the photo, he subsequently tried to blame it on his children but by that stage the damage was done and Canizares was soon trending for reasons we can only imagine he’s not particularly proud of (publicly at least, secretly, we reckon he might be a little proud of himself). Canizares will have to deal with a little public embarrassment as the story spreads throughout the football world and beyond over the next couple of days but then he’s no stranger to embarrassing headlines, having famously missed out on the 2002 World Cup after dropping a bottle of aftershave on his foot. We can safely say that any injuries he incurs as a result of these latest developments won’t be self-inflicted.
