Part of the problem with owning an Android phone is that it’s rare to get the latest and greatest apps first.

That’s because developers tend to favor iOS, launching their apps on Apple’s platform first. If it does well on the iPhone, then developers will consider expanding to Android.

We’ve heard this same story countless times from developers.

The latest example of this trend? HBO finally updated its popular HBO GO app on Android this weekend to support more Android phones. The app lets you stream full episodes of HBO shows if you already subscribe to the network through your cable or satellite provider.

And HBO GO still isn’t compatible with Android tablets.

HBO GO launched on iPhone and iPad more than a year ago.

It’s not the first big-name streaming app to take a long time to reach Android. Netflix and Hulu Plus took several months to make the move to Android. Even now, Hulu Plus won’t work on many Android phones and tablets.

I think it is a very unfair to blame Android for problems with lazy developers. Streaming video for Android isn’t impossible, look at Dish who has been doing it for years with their Dish Remote Access app. I have it on my iPad and my Android EVO. Not only does it work on both operating systems, it can stream live TV outside the home where most other apps are restricted to the home network for live TV, that is if they stream live TV at all. I will admit that Dish has shown some favor to the iPad as well. I was just showing a coworker at Dish how I have access to video on demand from HBO and other networks on my iPad. I think it may be easy for developers to blame Android, but if they really wanted their services in the hands of their customers, Android would be a priority.
