Microsoft is holding a developers event today to go over the future of its Windows Phone mobile operating system.

We’re expecting to get all the details on the new version called Windows Phone 8.

Microsoft has been pretty tight-lipped about Windows Phone 8, so we’re expecting a lot of surprises. We do know that today’s Windows Phone owners are unlikely to get Windows Phone 8 as the software won’t be compatible with current hardware.

However, Microsoft has already said Windows Phone 7 apps will work on Windows Phone, so that’s good news for developers.
